The intellectual socialism that has been thriving in the minds of Americans is that we all must be equal. Equal like prime ministers.
The nation has decomposed into people who reject authority. Bellum omnium contra omnes – a war of all against all.
A deep well of malice stems from the belief that anyone could become Warren Buffett with $42 billion, and that being a taxi driver is only a temporary situation. Because of the cops, the grand global conspiracy, Musk, democracy, and gravity.
That the people are wise and just is dangerous Tartuffe-ism. The truth is that post woke democracy has only reinforced that classic feeling that the universally acknowledged idiot will inevitably start ruling one day.
Probably that’s why the average American walks around with the old idée fixe in their mind: fuck authority! On one side, if they knew better, they’d try quoting Twain to criticize the elites: ‘A fool with a diploma is still a fool.’ On the other side, seemingly rational people wear pussy hats and march in the freezing cold for causes that aren’t even under threat.
Mentally confused protesters interrupt university lectures. Successfully! Deaf old boomers lecture the VP on the nobility of Ukrainian war efforts. An anonymous person explains to RFK Jr. that he understands neither medicine nor anything else. Some gender mutant has grabbed a keyboard and scratches on X about how dumb your article is. They’ve got an opinion on literature ever since they started watching reality TV.
Everyone in this country – whether they’re mopping floors or working as a kindergarten teacher – imagines they’d be a better president than the president. A bigger genius than the genius. They view their neighbor’s life as something they are entitled to, as if it were their own personal experience. And they completely diminish any accomplishment. Any talent.
However, this deeply negative attitude lacks dignity; it derives its sense of purpose from what it rejects. Therefore, when people demand equality, it is not to be on equal footing with their peers, but with those who surpass them. They wish to trample over the successes of the winners – artists, writers, inventors, and others.
And you know why? Because envy fills the gaps in a person’s understanding. Joy is unbearable for the joyless. Never forget this!
The average person is so entrenched in their mediocrity that they resist being anything beyond it. The dangerous illusion of ‘equality’ still persists in the minds of the downtrodden, especially in a zombified society. It is the imprint of collectivist ideology – the control of the minority over the majority.
In short, equality is the most deceptive foolishness, for which that famous building with seven prisoners – the Bastille – was destroyed. Four counterfeiters, two mentally ill, and one murderer don’t fit the metaphor of July 14, do they? Liberté, égalité, fraternité! Not to mention that freedom is the right to inequality. Only slaves are equal. Among themselves.
There was a time when politicians under democratic regimes earned votes primarily through their economic accomplishments. Now, people pretty much vote against failures. A perverse pleasure lies in the ‘negative vote.’ In the delight of the unhappy that all authorities will have their own Bastille Day! Maybe – big maybe – equality is some kind of human right, but no force on earth will make it a fact. So here we go! Down with talent! Down with the innovators! Down with nuclear! And on it goes.
This proletarian lack of any respect has not only been impossible to overcome, but it is deepening. People who have no views of their own have enmities. Know this: a nation is dead if its gods are dead. A nation is defined by its remarkable people, not by the idea of equality! Equality is nothing more than the backdrop to true greatness.
I’ll conclude with a timeless German saying, a remarkably wise antidote to envy: ‘Every morning, I thank God that I don’t have to worry about the Roman Empire.’
